Fishing Kits To Take On Walleyes and Pan Fish
Trying to outsmart a fat 2 pound walleye, crappie or double digit lake trout, It’s you, your fishing gear, and the fish. The saying is “A bad day of fishing is always better then a good day at work”
Outfit yourself with good fishing gear and you’re ready for a successful day out on the river, or open water. Fish like a pro with the diversity of jigs and spinner baits, or crank baits and Rapalas.
Growing up in northern Minnesota my Dad fished Lake Superior as a commercial fisherman for Herring and Long Lines for Lake Trout. He also drove truck hauling cord wood out of some of Minnesota’s remote areas.
Given his knowledge for inland lakes and his experience on Lake Superior we had the advantage of going inland open water fishing, or fishing Lake Superior for giant lake trout. When those didn’t work out, a stop by one of the many rivers on the north shore of Superior to catch enough Brookies for dinner.
Without overstating it at all, I grew up with some of the best fishing water in the country. Dad not only knew spots on Lake Superior but he also knew some unbelievable inland lakes. One of those inland spots produced 2 to 3 pound Speckled Trout, while another secret hole produced 1-2 pound Splake, a cross or hybrid between Lake Trout and Speckled Trout.
Our fishing gear then, involved a couple fiberglass spinning rods with closed face Johnson reels,Ā half dozen 100 yard spools of monofilament, an old beat-up tin tackle box with some dare devils, Swedish pimples, hooks, sinkers, and a couple jigs and spinners as well as a box of nite crawlers (that we caught) leaches or minnows.
I guess back then the fishing gear wasn’t as sophisticated or specialized as what is available today. Fishing gear keeps improving and I think the fish are getting a little smarter also.
It’s easy to gear up today with the fishing kits on the market for nearly any kind of fishing or any particular fish you are going after. A jigs and plastic tube kit for Walleye and pan fish, a stick bait kit for Striped Bass or Walleyes, a worm kit for large and small mouth Bass, or even saltwater and fresh water fishing kits.
If you are looking to upgrade your fishing gear, make life easy and pick out a couple kits for what ever fish and type of water you are going after.
