About the Sportsman’s Guide “We’ve Been In Business Over 33 Years”
The Sportsman’s Guide was born in the brain and basement of outdoors man Gary Olen, back in the winter of 1970. His very first Sportsman’s Guide Catalog came out in 1976.

During the ensuing years, the basic philosophy and attitudes of the company haven’t changed much. We sell only quality items…and we only sell them for a whole lot less than others do. We only offer hunting gear, fishing gear, camping gear and clothing that that we’d use ourselves or suggest to our best friends, and we keep our prices low by buying right, not by adding to the mark-up.

We literally search the world in order to keep the supply of brand new items flowing steadily from week to week.

Today, the The Sportsman’s Guide Catalog and Website has over 8 million value-minded customers who enjoy the quality and appreciate the savings.

Eastern Mountain Sports was born out of pure passion for outdoor adventure. It all started in 1967 when two Massachusetts rock climbers decided to do something about the lack of quality rock climbing gear in traditional sporting goods stores. Alan McDonough and Robert Furst opened a single store in Wellesley, MA selling the climbing rope and harneses they couldn’t find anywhere else, along with a hand-picked selection of camping gear that could be efficiently carried deep into the wilderness and trusted to perform.
A great many of our product managers, designers, and engineers started their careers in our stores where they learned what our customers want from real conversations, not focus groups.

We spend our off days getting after it on the same crags, trails, and peaks; lakes, rivers, and bays that you do. Simply put, we know what works and we refuse to sell you anything that we wouldn’t use ourselves.

Our first priority is your complete satisfaction with your Eastern Mountain Sports purchase. If you are dissatisfied for any reason and have your original store receipt or web invoice, we will exchange or repair the item in question or provide a full refund.

We will provide your refund using the same method of payment that you used to purchase the item. Returns accompanied by a gift receipt can be exchanged for a gear credit equal to the price of the item at the time of purchase.
